CTS Young Series by Thramer Rods

Any Paul Young taper is unique among US rod makers. There is more variety in these tapers than is immediately apparent. He is most noted for his parabolic rods, and that parabolic characterization has bled over into his "named" rods, although these "named" rods are much less parabolic and more traditional in feel. Their unique character remains, however. Both the parabolic and the "named" rods achieve the same goal - a rod that excels as a fishing tool.

The parabolic rods are full working all the way to the butt. It is on of the unique experiences when you can feel the cork grip flexing under your hand. These parabolic rods store power in the butt section and do require a bot of practice as you learn to wait for that power to develop, the forecast has to be more of a push than a snap.

The "named" rods are much easier to cast, but are uniquely versatile and adaptable to a wide range of situations. I have used a Martha Marie Perfectionist to fish #18 soft hackles to feeding selective trout, in the same day I have cast a weighted stonefly nymph 50+ feet across the same river. I did not feel under and strain in either situation

AJ's father's, and McKenzie's grandfather, favorite water was the high lakes of the Cascade Range in Oregon. AJ made him an 8ft 6wt HdxSB rod from his own taper book, one of the easiest of any taper we offer, yet AJ's father struggled with it. AJ built a Parabolic 15 with a wet and a dry tip, the dry tip was broken in a shop accident, leaving only the wet tip. AJ finished out the remaining rod tip and on a lark, let his father use it one day. thinking it would give him a fit trying to get it to cast. Surprisingly, he loved it so much, he never fished another rod. AJ and McKenzie still use this rod today.
